Elders & Deacons
Redeemer functions under the Presbyterian, or representative form of church government. The officers of the church are elders, elected by the congregation. The Pastor and Ruling Elders comprise the Session, and are responsible for the governance and spiritual oversight of the church.
The office of Deacon is spiritual in nature and is one of sympathy and service, after the example of Jesus Christ, for the people of God. The work of the Deacon falls into areas such as mercy (meeting the physical and spiritual needs of those inside and outside the church), stewardship (the collection and distribution of financial gifts), property (keeping the facilities in good repair and maintenance), and helps (accomplishing tasks and errands that aid in the life of the church). Deacons are nominated and elected by the congregation and are ordained to the office.
